It’s Leadership Recruitment Season: Seeking Candidates for Lemonade Day Board of Directors and Lemon Councils!
By Steven Gordon, Lemonade Day National President
As the 2018 “Lemonade Season” comes to an end this month and as I approach my second anniversary with Lemonade Day this October, I have paused to consider the factors that are contributing to Lemonade Day’s rapid expansion throughout North America. While there are many, the key “takeaway” is that Lemonade Day is growing through countless hours of support from thousands of leaders and “believers” who understand and appreciate the long-term value of youth entrepreneurship.
Lemonade Day is more than a day—it is a movement fueled by passionate, committed national staff and board members, city directors, city champions, parents, mentors, volunteers, sponsors and community partners who want to make a powerful impact on young children that will equip them with essential skills for life. Our Lemonade Day program impacts youth by teaching them business and character-building skills that instill confidence that will enable them to persevere through challenges that affect all of us as adults.
We are actively seeking recommendations for candidates to serve on our Lemonade Day National Board of Directors and on our local advisory boards (“Lemon Councils”) in communities throughout the United States and Canada.
Role of National Board Members
National board members do not receive any salary or compensation for their service. The board and the national president work collaboratively in leading Lemonade Day to achieving its long-term vision (250,000 mentors and 125 city champions to participate in Lemonade Day by 2023).
A national board member is an accomplished senior executive based in the U.S. or Canada who is eager to utilize his or her expertise and passion to reach the future generations of entrepreneurs through the Lemonade Day program.
Lemon Council Positions
We very much need volunteer leaders with expertise and enthusiasm who are willing to serve as ambassadors in licensed Lemonade Day communities. We are seeking Lemon Council members in the capacity of school partners, youth organization partners, business partners, faith-based partners, and specialists in fundraising, volunteer recruitment, website management, social media marketing, publicity and contest management.
Candidates Welcomed and Appreciated
Please submit candidates for consideration for the Lemonade Day National Board of Directors and Lemon Councils by Oct. 31. Members of our Lemonade Day national staff and I are available to discuss roles and responsibilities of these strategic volunteer leaders via conference call any time Oct. 1 or thereafter by scheduling an appointment. Please email steven@lemonadeday.org with your questions and suggestions.
Thank you for your support now and always.
About Lemonade Day
Founded in Houston in 2007 by Michael and Lisa Holthouse, Lemonade Day is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching every child across North America the business and financial skills that are the key ingredients of entrepreneurship. By learning these skills early in life, children will be better prepared to be successful, financially healthy adults. Through our fun, hands-on program, kids K-5 are empowered to start their very own business—a lemonade stand—and experience the feeling of earning real money, using 100% of their profit to spend, save and share based on their own goals.
Lemonade Day is hosted in 72 territories in North America and is growing. Over the past 11 years, we have served more than 1 million kids in our youth entrepreneur programs. Within the next five years, Lemonade Day leaders estimate that 250,000 mentors and millions more kids will be hosting lemonade stands in North America and on other continents throughout the world.
